e-News® | The NEWS Company…DHAKA, March 02, 2016 : President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said “Digital Bangladesh” was no more a dream for this country rather it is a reality now for the nation.
In separate messages on the eve of Bangladesh ICT Expo 2016, they said the massive innovation, expansion and application of ICT in both urban and rural areas have put Bangladesh onto a path of quick development.
“I hope, Bangladesh would become a middle-income country even before 2021 because of swift expansion and application of ICT,” said the President, who appreciated the present government’s commitment and endeavours in this field.
Abdul Hamid said today’s Bangladesh was a technology-based country that has already earned laurels from abroad, especially for development in ICT sector. Sheikh Hasina listed a number of her government’s programmes over the last seven years for development of ICT and said the government has attached priority not only to the software development but also to the expansion of hardware industry locally. Steps have already been taken, she said, to establish high-tech and software parks at divisional and district levels.
“Now the people in the remotest corners have access to internet,” said the Prime Minister, who initiated the Digital Bangladesh campaign before her party, Awami League, clinched a landslide victory and returned to power through the 2008 general elections. She also said the 4th Generation (4G) telephone facility would be made available soon, boosting ICT sector further with a high-speed internet service like the developed world. The Prime Minister and the President wished a success of the ICT Expo, which is co-organised each year by the ICT Division of the Government and the Bangladesh Computer Samity.
The objective of the expo is to make familiar local ICT hardware products to domestic and foreign users.
