A magnitude-6.8 earthquake shook most parts of the country along with the capital for nearly a minute Sunday evening.
A high-rise housing the Baishakhi television at Mohakhali and another large building named Geneta Tower at Dhanmondi tilted in the capital after the quake hit.
A person from Bogra said that a building tilted towards a neighbouring structure at Satrasta crossing in the town.
Television reports, however, said shattered window panes of different high-rises in the capital fell on the ground.
People gripped by panic rushed to the streets from their offices and residences and called loved ones after the tremor started at around 6:45pm.
The mobile service was disrupted during the tremor.
There were no immediate reports of casualties and the duration of the quake was not known instantly.
The epicentre of the quake was 490km northwest of Agargaon Met office in Dhaka, an official said.
A magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit a remote area in northeastern India on Sunday evening, causing panic as far as the capital of neighboring Bangladesh, but officials did not initially report large scale casualties or damage, reports news agency Reuters.
The US Geological Survey said on its website the quake was centred 64 km north west of Gangtok, in Sikkim. It was 20.7 km deep.
Reuters also said that the quake was felt all the way to Bangladesh, shaking buildings in the capital and neighboring areas, but no casualties or damage were reported immediately. Thousands of panic-stricken families in Dhaka ran out of high-rise buildings on to the streets as the ground under their feet shook.
“We do not expect major damage as the quake was moderate despite being strong. But we do expect some aftershocks,” said G. C. Debnath, a director at state-run India Meteorological Department’s Kolkata unit.
