e-News® | The NEWS Company… CHITTAGONG, Sept 10, 2014 – At least 14 persons including ten teachers of Chittagong University (CU) were injured when activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) allegedly lobbed crude bombs targeting two university buses carrying faculty members this morning.
CU Proctor Siraj-ud-Daula told that the activists of Jamaat’s student wing ICS carried out the attack as they have been on a strike at the university since August 31 demanding reopening of two Shibir-dominated residential halls.
Chief Medical Officer of CU Medical Centre Kazi Saifullah said of the injured nine CU teachers have been rushed to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital where they are undergoing treatment. The identities of the injured teachers could not be known immediately. The teachers came under the attack in Fatehabad area on their way to the campus from the city around 10:30am, said Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Hathazari Police Station.
Around 15 to 20 ICS activists hurled hand bombs first and then hit the windowpanes of the buses from an ambush that resulted in wounding of teachers. Five others including the driver of the bus received first-aid at the university’s medical centre.
CU Teachers’ Association General Secretary Towhid Hasan said two of the buses carrying teachers were heading for the campus from the city came under attack by a group of young men around 10 am. The ICS activists on September 6, allegedly blasted hand bombs targeting a university shuttle train. However, none was hurt in the attack. Besides, teachers’ buses and railway station were vandalized earlier.
