Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu on Friday said broadband Internet services and mobile phone should be available at affordable prices to ensure access of people to ICT network for building a technologically advanced country.
The government should take initiatives to reduce prices internet services and mobile phone to reach Information Technology (IT) services to the doorstep of common people, he told this the inaugural function of a three-day Smartphone Expo at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here. IT specialist Mustafa Jabbar and First Bangladeshi Everest Winner Musa Ibrahim, among others, spoke on the occasion. There is no limit of advancement of ICT as it is constantly changing and progressing, Inu urged the young generation to dedicate themselves to attain knowledge on ICT for building a digital Bangladesh.
ICT education must be mandatory for the students of any groups so that all people can acquire basic knowledge on computer and internet services.
The country already witnessed remarkable progresses in the field of information communication technology (ICT) as the present government has been implementing different programmes on ICT, the minister added.
He said the government is sincerely working to expand ICT at grassroots level aiming to remove digital divide between poor and rich people for building a poverty-free country. The organizers said a total of 17 stalls have been set up in the expo. The expo will remain open from 10 am to 8pm every day.
