The Phosphor World Time Watch uses futuristic E-Ink to tell you what time it is anywhere on the planet.
The watch of the future is here, and I put to the test. Take a look at the Phosphor World Time Watch, a $150 timepiece that uses E-Ink, new technology that uses very little energy and is used in electronic readers such as the Amazon Kindle.
The minute I put this watch on my wrist, I realized it had a tremendous “wow” factor. It’s just downright cool. Those of us in the 45-to-65 age group often rely on watches instead of furtively glancing at cellphones to figure out what time it is, so if you’re looking for some geek cred, wearing this baby will certainly cut down on the “out-of-touch fogey” factor that watch wearing inexplicably conveys to some younger whippersnappers.
This isn’t the first E-Ink watch produced by Phosphor. But it’s the best. This one is even more special than its first iteration — beyond just functioning as a mere watch, this new model tells you what time it is anywhere in the world, using a choice of 5 display configurations.
But that’s not this its main appeal. It’s the sexy curved 9.3mm-thin case, showing off those black numerals over a white background with considerable contrast. Or, you can switch it around so there are white numerals over a black background, and change it around to a variety of different display modes.
What you see in the graphic above is the default mode, showing the day of the week on the top, stacked on top of today’s date, the current time, and the month the bottom. At first, it doesn’t make much sense, but I got used to it after a while.
With a press of the button bar at the bottom, you can show just the hour and minutes in large or small numerals, or you can quickly display the current time combined with that of another international location of your choosing. International playboys will love this feature, with an added bonus of its residing on a watch that looks a whole lot more expensive than it is.
I love this watch. It’s nice and thin, its curved construction fits the arm perfectly, and it gets raves from everyone who sees it. I don’t even mind its black plastic band, but if that doesn’t suit you, for the same price you can choose white plastic, a black leather band for $165, or a stainless steel band for $195.
If you want to look like you’re wearing a watch that was delivered from the future via time machine, you’ve just found it, just in time for the holidays. Start hinting around. You won’t be disappointed.
