DHAKA, Aug 1, 2013 -Prime Minister’s son and internationally-reputed information technology (IT) expert Sajeeb Wazed Joy today said the present government has been able to check corruption to a great extent by reaching IT facilities to the doorsteps of the common people.
Citing an example, he said the people of the country had to spend a huge amount of money to the recruiting agencies to go to Malaysia. “And a portion of the amount had gone to the Hawa Bhaban during the BNP rule,” he said
“But they can now go to Malaysia by spending few thousands taka as ICT facilities make easier the process of going to that country. There is no scope for doing irregularities to this end,” he said.
Joy said this in his introductory speech at the 13th meeting of the Domestic Network Coordination Committee (DNCC) held at the Prime Minister’s Office here this morning.
Chairman of the committee and PM’s Principal Secretary Shaikh Md Wahid-Uz-Zaman presided over the meeting.
Joy said he dreamt of building Digital Bangladesh for improving the living standard of the people. “There were needs of two things to materialize the dream — the first was electricity and the second was connectivity,” he said.
Joy said the government has already been able to solve the electricity, while the connectivity witnessed significant progress in the last four and a half years.
He said the Domestic Network Coordination Committee has been working to increase the areas of the connectivity. And
significant progress has already been made in this regard as the people are now getting government services across the country through the union information service centres (UISCs), he said.
Extending sincere thanks to all concerned, Joy said: “There are many successes in the areas of connectivity which is now at the final stage and I hope that you would continue your endeavours.”
He, however, said there are many works remaining and the Awami League government would continue its works, if it is reelected.
The 13th meeting of the DNCC reviewed the progress of the expansion of the fibre optic.
It was informed at the meeting that BTCL has already provided fibre optic connection to 108 unions, while the process for giving fibre optic connection to 1000 unions is underway. A project has also been undertaken to provide connection to 1000 more remote areas, it said.
Secretaries concerned, BTRC chairman and representatives of different government organizations were present on the occasion.
One of the aims of building Digital Bangladesh by the present government is to reach broadband network facilities to all over the country including the rural people.
And the Domestic Network Coordination Committee was formed in 2010 comprising important organizations of the government to coordinate the activities of the broadband networking by giving priority to the expansion of broadband facilities across the country.
