e-News® | The NEWS Company…DHAKA, Feb 16, 2015 : The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has announced a package of urgent measures to face up the spread of terrorism affecting a number of OIC member states and prevent the Muslim world from the danger of extremism. The announcement was made at the ‘Open-ended ministerial meeting of the OIC Executive Committee’ held on Sunday at the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, according to a message received here today.
The meeting called for convening of a meeting of legal experts in the domain of terrorism to revise the OIC convention of 1999 to devise appropriate mechanisms to face up the new trends of terrorism in the OIC member states. It also called for an extensive discussion on terrorism and transnational crimes and urgently find ways and means to deal with cybercrimes. Prince Dr. Turki bin Mohamed bin Saud Al Kabeer Al Saud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations chaired the meeting.
He pointed out that the meeting comes in the framework of a series of international and regional meetings to discuss the phenomenon of terrorism from its various aspects. For his part, the OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani stressed that combating terrorism cannot be achieved only through security and military means, and that there should be scientific plans to deal with the aspects, dimensions and contexts, which provide favorite environment for the spread of terrorism, extremism and violence. The OIC Executive Committee is formed of the Troika of the OIC Summit which constitutes Egypt, Senegal and Turkey, as well as Troika of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers which comprises Saudi Arabia, Guinea and Kuwait, in addition to the OIC Secretary General, the message added.
