e-News® | The NEWS Company…DHAKA, Sept 29, 2014- Public Administration Ministry probe team formed to investigate the seven murders of Narayanganj today quizzed director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Mukhlesur Rahman.
The RAB chief faced the probe team, formed in line with the High Court (HC) directive on May 7, for two hours from 2.30 in the afternoon. “We talked with the chief of RAB as involvement of some members of his battalion in the seven murders of Narayanganj came to the light,” said Md Shahjahan Ali, additional secretary, Ministry of Public Administration and chief of the probe team.
He (RAB DG) informed us whatever he knew about the killings, Ali said, but declined to divulge more for the sake of the investigation. The probe report will soon be submitted before the court, he added.
After facing the probe team, RAB chief Mukhlesur Rahman said, “I have said everything what the probe team wanted to know from me about the seven murders of Narayanganj and I am telling the truth.” He, however, declined to divulge what he said before the probe team.
Earlier, on April 27 seven persons including panel mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker had been kidnapped from Dhaka-Narayanganj link road and subsequently killed. Their bodies were recovered from the river Shitolakhhya, three days after the killings. Selina Islam Buty, wife of slain Nazrul Islam and Dr Bijoy Kumar Pal, son-in-law of slain Chandan Kumar, filed two separate cases in this regard.
