Bangladesh Samyabadi Dal on Wednesday expressed its support for introduction of an electronic voting system (EVS) in the next general polls.
The party leaders expressed their opinions when the Election Commission (EC) sat with them at the commission’s secretariat in the capital as part of their ongoing dialogue.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Samyabadi Dal Dilip Barua, also the industries minister, led the 10-member team during the one-and-half-hour talks that began at about 11:15am.
During the meeting, Dilip Barua stressed the need for establishing a free and powerful Election Commission to conduct a neutral election.
If a neutral and powerful Election Commission is established, the nation will overcome the recent political crisis regarding the caretaker government system, Dilip Barua said.
The party members suggested amendment of some provisions of Representation of the People Order (RPO) initiated by the EC.
The EC on Tuesday launched dialogues with the political parties for their opinion on some key issues like RPO; laws on demarcation of constituencies and appointment of election commissioners; and use of electronic voting machine.
The EC is schedule to hold talks with Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) in the afternoon.
