Detectives are questioning a youth team footballer on suspicion of murder.
Stoke City FC teenager Andrew Hall was arrested after a 15-year-old girl was found dead at a house party in Ampthill, Bedfordshire.
Mr Hall played for the Premier League team’s under-18s side last season and is now in custody being questioned by detectives.
Megan-Leigh Peat died from her injuries after paramedics and police were called to the house at 1.30am on Saturday.
Officers have since been carrying out forensic searches of the property.
Flowers have been left outside the home and blood spots could be seen on the pavement outside.
Tributes to the popular teenager have been posted on Facebook and other social networking sites.
Hannah Louise Watson wrote: “Still can’t believe it. You made everyone proud when you never have up and held your head high through the hardest of times and you always helped supporting everyone around you.
“So now is our time to thank everything you’ve done to help others and thank you for the best memories Megan.”
Bedfordshire Police officers are still building a picture of exactly what led up the teenage girl’s death.
Stoke City FC confirmed to Sky News that Mr Hall was one of 10 young players who have recently been offered “professional development contracts” to play at under-21 level at the Premier League club.
A spokesman said: “The club are not prepared to comment at this stage other than to say that the thoughts of everyone here are with Megan’s family at this tragic time.”
