#thenewscompany- State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim today announced number of verified SIMs with biometric method has crossed 10 crore mark.
“A total of 10.09 crore SIMs have been verified with biometric till Saturday evening. Still 2 days are remained, so I hope the number would be increased further,” she said at a media briefing today at her ministry office. Apprehending for losing few SIMs, Tarana said: “When we started the process we knew that few SIMs would be dropped from the total number, but we are satisfied about the response received from the people.”
Cautioning about the deactivation of the unverified SIMs, the state minister reiterated the call for completion of verification of each SIM by May 31. “All the unverified SIMs will be deactivated from the ‘zero hour’ of the 31st midnight of May.”
Tarana Halim said they would provide NID related services to the senior citizens of the country from the morning to 3pm in May 31 for their convenience.
“Senior citizen who have finger print related problems would get special services to solve their issues in the day so they could complete the reregistration process,” she added. Tarana urged the people to call “16103” to know where he/she should go to avail the NID related services. Replying to a query about the readiness of the operator to deactivate the unverified SIMs, representatives of the operators in presence of the state minister said: “all the unverified SIMs are identified automatically after the expiry of the deadline. So there will be no problem to deactivate the unverified SIMs.”
Answering to another query, Tarana Halim said in June they would scrutinise the whole reregistration process to oversee any type of errors. “In the last week of June or first week of July after scrutinisation, we would inform the subscribers through SMS that how many SIMs have been registered against his/her NID.”
