e-News® | The NEWS Company…SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 2, 2015 : The government is preparing a 20-year strategic plan named ‘Dhaka Structure Plan-2016-2035’ to build the capital as a modern city. All development activities of Dhaka city would be conducted according to the plan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in reply to a question from treasury bench member M Abdul Latif in the house today. She said the structure plan, being prepared with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank, now remains at public hearing stage. It is expected to be finalized and published through gazette by November 2015, she said.
Sheikh Hasina said the structure plan would have a long-term plan for traffic management, housing, land and disaster management and drainage system. Execution of the plan would begin in 2016, she said. Responding to a question from Tajul Islam (Comilla 9), the prime minister said the government has taken steps to construct a double track standard gauge railway line from Dhaka to Chittagong via Comilla/Laksam, which would reduce the journey time from Dhaka to Chittagong to three hours. Replying to another question from Momtaz Begum (Manikganj 2), the prime minister said the government has taken human trafficking as a severe crime under which a person intends to go abroad illegally would also be found guilty on the same charge.
