e-News® | The NEWS Company…DHAKA, Dec 30, 2015 : President Abdul Hamid today asked the children to be enlightened with knowledge and science for serving the nation and its people. “You’re the future leader of the country; you have to go a long way to achieve success in life. Along with it, you have to acquire all qualities of a good citizen for welfare of the country,” he said at a programme at Bangabhaban here.
The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs organised the programme titled “Gathering of Children with Honorable President”. Some 250 children, aged between 6 and 14, got the rare opportunity to meet the President and spend a day with him. The children took part in different sports events on the lawn of Bangabhaban. The kids also enthralled the President and other audience with their cultural performances.
“We were citizens of a subjugated country and we couldn’t even imagine entering a royal palace like Bangabhaban. But you are the citizens of an independent country and there are now ample opportunities before you,” the President said. “The whole world is within your reach thanks to the development of information technology,” he said, adding that “I want that you would play a role in the country’s development utilizing the technology properly.”
Walking down the memory lane, Abdul Hamid said, “I’m overwhelmed with childhood memories while talking with you today. You know that I’m from haor area of Kishoreganj.”
He continued, “I grew up making friendship with the wave of haor and through struggle. I used to move from village to village by boat and witness the struggling life of haor people.”
“Though I’ve been living at Bangabhaban now for the sake of my duties, I always deeply feel my birthplace. So, I rush to my ancestral home whenever I get scope.”
“You must visit your village whenever you get time and you’ll also witness the natural beauty of the countryside,” he added. Earlier, Abdul Hamid replied to different queries from the children.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki, secretary of the ministry Nasima Begum and chairman of Shishu Academy Selina Hossain spoke on the occasion.
