#thenewscompany : Awami League (AL) Presidium member and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the main goal of the National Council of the Awami League (AL) is to prevent communalism and militancy.
“The main commitment of the council is to establish a non-communal state as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by defeating communalism and militancy under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” said the minister.
“The party would be more made more efficient and professional with the demand of the time, which is another commitment of the council,” he added.
The minister, who is convener of office sub-committee of the national council preparatory committee, said this at a meeting of discipline sub-committee at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city.
AL Joint Secretary General Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organizing Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Faridun Nahar Laily, Deputy-Office Secretary Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, Member-Secretary of the sub-committee and State Minister for Jute and Textiles Mirza Azam were present among others.
The council is expected to be attended by 6,570 councilors, same figure of local and foreign delegates, he said.
More than 2000 volunteers and 200 women volunteers will be deployed at the council venue, he said.
The meeting decided that allout preparations for the Awami League national council would be completed by October 19 as the AL National Council will be held October 22-23, Quader said.
