CHITTAGONG: A student of Lalkhanbazar Madrasa, who sustained blast injuries, succumbed to his injuries at Chittagong Medical College Hospital early Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Habib, 25.
Earlier on Monday, a deadly explosion occurred in the dormitory of Jameyatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa in port city’s Lalkhanbazar area, leaving five students injured.
Another critically injured Nunrunobi, a student of Chittagong Polytechnic Institute, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition was deteriorated.
CMCH police outpost Nayek Bashar confirmed it to banglanews. On Monday noon, Habib and Nurunnobi were detained by police while they were taking treatment in private clinics secretly. Later, they were admitted to CMCH where Habib sucumed to his injuries at around 2:00am. Police, however, found a number of hand grenades and explosive materials at the madrasa-run by Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury.
Police filed two separate cases against 12 persons including Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury under explosives act and acid control act with Khulsi Thana of the port city on Tuesday over Monday blasts.
Confirming the matter, additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) M Shahidullah told banglanews, “A case was filed mentioning 12 names under explosives act and two persons in a case under acid control act. Some unnamed persons were also made plaintiff in both cases.”
Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector of Detective Branch Santosh Chakma told banglanews that while conducting a drive, they recovered a fresh hand grenade from Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa of Mufti Izharul Islam at round 11.30am Tuesday.
Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury is the Nayeb-e-amir of Hefajat-e-Islam.
