The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Planning on March 21 recommended to set up coal- based power plant for reducing pressure on gas.
The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Planning also recommended taking immediate steps for repairing the rundown roads instead of constructing new ones. The committee came up with the suggestions at its 41st meeting at the parliament complex. The committee made the recommendation at a meeting with its chairman HN Ashiqur Rahman in the chair Members of the committee –Planning Minister Abdul Karim Khandaker, Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir and Mohammad Nazrul Islam — attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed different aspects of the sixth five- year plan and the upcoming budget, issues relating to power generation and its distribution, road repair and construction and employment of youths. They also discussed the evaluation, achievement and the present state of the sixth five-year plan (2011-15) and inclusion of desired goals in the upcoming budget.
