#thenewscompany – The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today approved six projects, including the Dhaka Water Supply Network Development one, involving a total of Tk 6,950.23 crore.
The approval came at a meeting of the ECNEC held at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. Of the six projects, four are new and two are revised ones. Of the total outlay of Tk 6,950.23 crore, the government will provide Tk 4,146 crore, Tk 2, 661.70 crore will come as project assistance while the organizations concerned will contribute Tk 141.59 crore from their own funds, Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal said while briefing journalists after the meeting.
Dhaka Water Supply Network Development project will be implemented with a cost of Tk 3,182.30 crore aiming to enhance the capacity of Dwasa for ensuring dependable round-the-clock safe water supply to the city dwellers.
The planning minister said a total of 82 district metering areas will be established under the project aiming to strengthen the capacity of Dhaka Water and Sewerage Authority (Dwasa). He hoped that the project would help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Kamal said the government will ensure fresh water for all dwellers of the city including the slum ones through legal connections.
“Of the total project cost of Tk 3,182.30 crore, Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide Tk 2,145 crore while the government will give the remaining amount,” he said. The other projects approved by the ECNEC are: construction of chief judicial magistrate building in 64 districts (Tk 2,388.27 crore), capacity building, establishment and transformation of 33KV overhead line in underground cable of Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) (Tk 568.80 crore), rehabilitation and capacity building project of 132/33/11KV grid sub-station of Uttara and Bashundhara of DESCO (Tk 251.36 crore), National Academy for Autism and Neuro
