The voter-ID-card project under the supervision of the EC is facing a setback as it is now unable to issue national ID along with photographs as per desired pace for lack of manpower as well as adequate essential instruments.
The Election Commission has decided to decentralize the national identity card project for expanding the service up to the doorsteps of the people across the country from the next fiscal year, information minister Abul Kalam Azad informed parliament Wednesday. He came up with such a disclosure while replying to a question of M Abdul Latif during the question-answer session in the House. In this regard Abul Kalam Azad clarified: The voter-ID-card project under the supervision of the EC is facing a setback as it is now unable to issue national ID along with photographs as per desired pace for lack of manpower as well as adequate essential instruments. Replying to another query of Ashraf Uddin Mizan, the minister said that the total number of posts is 2381 in the secretariat of EC and its local offices across the country. Against the total posts of 2381, 1993 posts were filled and of them 1975 employees are employed in the EC secretariat and the EC will fill the vacant posts in the next fiscal year, he added.
