The minister, also member of Awami League advisory council, said the government was working for people’s welfare, while BNP was trying to destabilize the country. “If there was any attempt to subvert the country it would be dealt with an iron hand”, he said. He also affirmed that the next election would be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said “If the war crimes’ trial was held the souls of the martyred intellectuals would rest in peace.”
“The killers on the eve of our victory had killed the best minds of our society to cripple the nation. But the country had not gone back, it had moved forward,” he said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also president of Awami League, laid wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu. She was followed by other Awami League leaders including Industries’ Minister Amir Hossain Amu, MP, Suranjit Sen Gupta, MP, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, LGRD Minister and general secretary of Awami League, Syed Ashraful Islam and joint secretary of Awami League, Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif.
Besides, associate organizations of Awami League, members of the martyred intellectuals’ families and other socio-cultural organizations laid wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
