The two-day joint steering committee (JSC) meeting on India-Bangladesh power sector cooperation has been deferred until December this year at the request of New Delhi .
“The scheduled JSC meeting has been shifted following a request from Indian side because they cannot come to Dhaka right now as the Indian parliament has gone into session,” Power Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told news men recently.
He, however, said the fresh date for the JSC meeting has not been fixed yet. But it’s now expected to take place some time in the first part of December in Dhaka .
Secretaries of power ministries of the two nations will lead their respective sides to the JSC meeting.
Bangladesh Power Ministry officials said the JSC meeting will discuss issues like the progress on Bangladesh ‘s power import from India and setting up of 1320-MW coal-fired power plant in Khulna near the Sundarbans in Bangladesh .
The Indo-Bangla joint steering committee was formed in 2010 and its first meeting was held in January 12 the same year in New Delhi . Since then, the committee has been sitting regularly twice a year in Dhaka and New Delhi alternatively.
