Rapper-turned-entrepreneur MC Hammer is planning to launch his own search engine.
The news emerged at this week’s Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, US.
Hammer, born Stanley Kirk Burrell, says his search engine – called Wiredoo – will not attempt to compete with mainstream browsers like Google or Bing.
In recent years, Hammer has been a fixture at tech events like Web 2.0 and Tech Crunch Disrupt in recent years.
Still in development, Wiredoo will “add relationship information to search results”, reports the New York Times.
At the summit, the entertainer used simple examples like cars and homes and showed how a search for the latter would produce information about neighbourhoods, local schools, mortgages, insurance etc.
“It’s not a competitive attempt to recreate search,” he said.
“You can always make things better. There’s always a next version.
“Do we really need another search engine? Of course not.
“But if something can be an added value, then we’ll find a definite use for it.”
